Dear Cynthia Stephen, Your mail has been a classic example of how a discussion is manipulated to give new meaning.. In my mail, i was mentioning about the attitude of women, because of macaulay education.. but you have transformed it in to a topic of higher and lower status, which i did not write in my mail .. Should i call it as dis-information.. a tendency to view everything as majority - minority or higher - lower duality? Please come out of this attitude.. My point was that every human being is flesh and blood.. but, its the human perception and attitude towards one another, that creates problem or peace.. Traditionally, women were respected as creators of wealth.. hence the name lakshmi.. women were often equated to prosperity.. we often interpret coming of new bride as equivalent to lighting a house.. because, a women is perceived as protector of the family.. hence names like maha lakshmi, bagya lakshmi etc.. But the macaulay education propogates falsely that women are enslaved in india, which is not true.. the 50 years of education taught only negative of our culture, and to get ashamed of our culture.. i would say, this is not an education at all.. To your question of education to women, kindly read the book "The beautiful tree" written by dharampal.. its not just women.. but even all castes had their education equally.. http://www.samanvaya.com/dharampal/frames/downloads/3beautiful-tree.zip You can find from the above book, that during 18th century, england had only few thousand schools, while just a undivided bengal province had around 1 lakh schools.. and an equal number of schools in madras presidency.. Also you could find that, so much of sanskrit books were stolen from here which triggered the scientific revolution in the west. The missionaries learned the method of teaching here, and adopted there in england only in 19th century.. Again, i am pointing the difference b/w the nationalists and secularists.. the nationalists always speak of india's strength.. and the secularists always speak of problems in india.. I have quoted a few ounces of positive facts about indian education.. is there any one who is ready to look in to this? Regards, Senthil Raja ------------------------------------
