Dear Friend(s),

Greetings from All India Santal Welfare and Cultural Society (AISWACS)!

AISWACS as most of us are aware of is involved in Participatory Action Research on Adivasi Self Rule (PAR on ASR)- an innovative Project aimed in strengthening Santal Adivasi Peoples grass-root / village level Organisations / Institutions of self-governance. The four pillars / basic foundations of the Project are Capacity Building, (CB) Organisation Building (OB), Participatory Strategic Planning (PSP) and Implementation of the plans.

AISWACS during the last few years has been involved the process of Capacity Building and Organisation Building (OB), among the identified 50 villages in Santal Parganas, Jharkhand (INDIA). Facilitating these two (CB and OB) processes has not only been exciting but also very challenging for the field staff (of AISWACS) as also for the villagers themselves; the villagers (men, women, children, community / village leaders, rich and poor) found themselves actively sharing their concerns, problems, hopes, aspirations, and visions for their future development. They were gradually but steadily breaking free from the culture of silence, apathy, pessimism, fatalism and were visualising / dreaming of their own developed villages and community. The rays of hope in them were visible through the twinkles in their eyes and other positive expressions.

Friend(s), now the villagers (in these 50 villages) are again passing through thrilling experiences as they are involved in the process of Participatory Strategic Planning (PSP) i.e. the villagers are formulating their own perspective strategic plans based on their needs and visions. It would definitely be interesting to witness the PROCESS as the people use their experiences and collective wisdom to plan their own development. Indeed, these would be historic events as for the first time the people in the region are involved in real democratic process of planning from bottom – up.

We (AISWACS), on behalf of the villagers from the identified villages would like to invite you to be our guest to witness the PROCESS as an expression of solidarity and be involved in this MOVEMENT of strengthening peoples democracy.
