The unsullied truth is that the Gujarat massacres in 2002 as an aftermath to the Godhra killings is one of the most egregious instances of unblemished communal carnage. Women and children were not only not spared but done to death in the most horrendous and bizarre manner. Pictures of children, homeless and bereft of parents still haunts the mind like a terrible dream. Those who chose to protest either left their jobs or were treated like dirty pariahs. So much for the Gujarat carnage of 2002. That the protests of sanity still continue today is a sign of the ' little lights' to use a Fosterian expression who still exist in India today, and who recognize the presence of each other. God be blessed for it. The Gujarat riots are a slur on the sanity and the professed secularism of the country. I for one do not believe that anyone responsible for it should be exonerated, or their culpabilities ignored, something which is a predilection of the so called intelligentsia as well.

It is the collective responsibility of the citizens of the country to find out who were responsible for the carnages whether it be against Sikhs, Muslims, Christians or whoever. Now with the proliferation of the media some responsible journalism should invesitgate into such matters. Is this happening? Thanks to the parallel media in the internet many things both gruesome and positive are coming to light. Yes I agree, simply blaming the Congress is applying blinkers to reality. Hydra headed monsters in the form of right wing religious elements seem to be ubiquitous. They not only deserve condemnation but elimination through a strong public consciousness. Unforfutnately the duplicity of politicians, who mouth platitudes in one breath, and instigate others to rouse sentiments against religious communities in another is the the greatest impediment to a free and fair democracy.
