It is not clear from your letter what exact benefits of caste system you are trying to emphasise. But evil heads this system has, are all bare and naked-- the no. of casteist violence is a testimoni of this.
Caste has only helped the so called upper echleon people to enjoy the benefits exploiting the so called lower classes. How it is possible that an uneducated brahmin's son will earn by blue colored priesthood job whereas a so called lower class person being in the same village, being uneducated, proverty-stricken in the same way has to resort only to professions like scanvanging, cleaning, tonsoring etc.
The pond, roads, even temples remain unaccessible in the name of caste. I don't think even any Avatar has ever dared to descend in any lower cast hindu family. In this forum, I have read about somebody who informed about his tribal mother & brahmin father and expressed that this has never put him in any mental strain. But what about a reverse situation -- can a tribal boy or a lower caste man can marry a Brahmin or a upper caste girl and still express the same opinion. If there is any such example I would like to know.
And finally why you require to carry such things. It is after all the education and propriety of a person which must bear him/her in the society and not something like caste which is definitely a system created by elite to avoid the menial jobs and keeping some people as attendents in perpetuity.
It is very easy to blame every evil custom of hinduism on the British or outsiders.But as you said every system has their own problems, it is better to accept that we also have many dirty customs like all other societies and depending on what suits us we start justifying those customs.
