Rally was held at Ahmadabad by Left Forces 17th March 2009; A massive rally of left forces was concluded in a public meeting at Sardar Baug, Ahmadabad on 17th March, 2009, after marching about 5 Km distance start from Bhikabhai Garden. Under the banner of "Gujarat Jan Abhiyan", more than ten thousand Adivasis apart from several others like, workers, peasants and minorities were participated in the rally. After long span of time, Ahmadabad has seen thousands of red flags visible in the hands of poor people and faced road jam for three hours during the march. Rally was addressed by Com. Ambarish Rai, President, Lok Sangharsh Morcha, Com. Sanjay Singhavi, CPI ML (Ramchandran group), Com. Swapan Mukharjee CC member, CPI ML (Liberation), Pratibha Shinde, Gen. Secretary LSM, Amrish Patel Gen. Secretary NSM and several others belonging to different mass organizations. Rally was presided over by Mahesh Bhatt, senior Ad. Ahmadabad High court and Sumanbhai Vasawa, tribal leader & president, Gujarat LSM, while rally was convened by Com, Mukul Sinha, Ad, & Chairman, New Socialist Movement. "Gujarat Jan Abhiyan" has decided to initiate a long-term united struggle on the people's issues for building an alternative political force in Gujarat Resolutions passed in Gujarat Jan Abhiyan meeting; - House appealed to all the left and democratic forces to unite and establish an alternative political force in the state of Gujarat.
- House urged the people of Gujarat to reject the communal politics of the ruling party and oppose the communal-fascist tendencies.
- House demanded that the government should forthwith terminate its strategic alliance with the American-Israel axis and returns to its non-alliance position.
- House urged the people of the country to oppose the autocratisation of Indian State in the name of supporting the "war against terrorism".
- The house dismissed the developmental model of the Government of Gujarat under the banner of Vibrant Gujarat which has benefited only a handful of richest Industrial houses whereas destroyed the lively-hood of millions of workers including lacs of Diamond workers.
- The house expressed its deep anxiety of the severe crisis faced by the formers resulting in several cases of farmers committing suicide.
- The house also demanded the scraping of the SEZ Act and disbanding of the existing SEZs.
- The house demanded the immediate implementation of the Forest law (Schedule tribe and other forest dwellers (recognition of forest rights) Act, 2006) enacted in 2006 and furnishing of the 7/12 rights to the Adivasis cultivators.
- The house demanded the justiciable rehabilitation for all displaced due to developmental projects especially for the displaced of Ukai Dam and demanded equal rehabilitation to the displaced of Sardar Sarover Project.
- The house demanded the immediate amendment of the relevant laws to prohibit the employment of contract labor system or casual workers in work or service, which are permanent in nature.
- House demanded the strict implementation of the minimum wages Act and making the non-payment a cognizable offence at the behest of the workers.
- The house demanded that the government of Gujarat promulgated an ordinance or the payment of unemployment allowance to all the diamond workers and similar workers who have been rendered jobless due to the present recession.
