Dear Cynthia, I completely agree with your conclusion in the beautifully written article on Adivasi policy and situation in India by Mari Marcel Thekaekara. Moving through so many facts and figures related with the so-called Scheduled Tribe population of our country (as we have almost named the Adivasis or aboriginals in India) in a very logical and coherent manner, the author of the piece so rightly concludes that- "hope lies in a return to community, to a reverence for the earth and to old sustainable ways". In fact, this seems to be the nutshell and core of his conclusion and this seems to be the fundamental theory on which our policy makers shall base all their future programs if we genuinely want to help this group. But for many reasons, as described in the article, we have consistently been deviating from this path and have been moving thru all circuitous paths yielding less and making more noise.
