Dear Venkat: Instead of reading the critique of the different media coverage on the violence in Mumbai and Orissa for what it is by an eminent international scholar - the fact that you had to go the the net to investigate who Gail Omvedt is, shows the level of your exposure to the debate on India's social processes - you have chosen to see something that is not there - the alleged equating of Mumbai and Orissa violence by the author. For the information of both Venkat and Manoj Padhi, Dr. Gail Omvedt is an Indian citizen, and is married to a medical doctor who is a scion of an freedom fighter's family and who led a large people's movement in Maharashtra. She has lived in India for over two decades and has produced a large body of work relating to the liberative trends in Indian social movements. Please refrain from ill-chosen personal remarks against writers, thereby exposing your ignorance to all.
