I completely agree with Dr.Walter on this.THe reverence and emoiton
that We Indians attach to our parents, be it any of us christian,
muslim or hindu, is way above the pittance of western nations. It
runs so deep that our parents would feel offended by being specially
thought of and showered with gifts just one day in a year.In fact
Indians have been able to break away a little from family ties since
about three to four decades ago as ancestral lands came to be sold
off by the first generation of in service urban adult children after
Independence.THeir progeny has been sadly bereft of strong old ties
to grandfather , grandmother etc.Living far off from their own
parents' "personal" not ancestral,houses they usually feel
overwhelmed by Mother and Father's Days.Commercial forces happily
step in. Not only this , arent most of the youngsters today trying to
be one up on each other about how western they are etc. etc.and their
hoity toity mathar and fathar days.
